First impressions are so important, especially when it comes to food. Crafty Cuts Carvery looked amazing whenever I walked past it; especially the variety of sides and was next on my MLC Centre Foodie Challenge. Unfortunately, I didn't have a good first experience. In order to beat the lunch rush and avoid the huge crowds, I went down to MLC Centre around 1:30. It was definitely better than when I go around 12/12:30 because there were actually seats available and the lines weren't so long. This freedom definitely came at a cost. It's definitely evident that when you go to a restaurant or an eatery towards the closing time or at the end of lunch, there aren't many food options left and this was the case today. Being vegetarian, the only option at this carvery was the falafel but unfortunately there was only 2 left so the server told me that I could have 2 extra sides. I decided to go for the Roasted Vegetables, Pear and Rocket Salad and Kale and Pumpkin Salad - vegetarian's heaven or what?!? #superfood #healthy The sides look like a lot but it's just propped up salad leaves that gives off the added volume perception. I decided to eat my sides first because there were only 2 falafels; so 1 falafel inbetween the salads hehe. My favourite one was definitely the Kale and Spinach; I really loved the dressing and because it's kale #toteshealthy. To be honest, that's probably where the good comments stop :( The pear was a little brown which didn't look appetising and because wasn't enough dressing the taste of the rocket became too overpowering and I'm not really a fan of eating a lot rocket. The Roasted Vegetables was nice but there was skin on the pumpkin and not enough seasoning. The skin hard and sharp and wasn't pleasant to eat which let it down for me. I love pumpkin but if the skin was to be left on, it has to be soft enough to chew. And the falafels, the star of the dish; it was a challenge to cut through it. It could have been because of the cutlery, or my lack of strength or that the falafels were slightly overcooked on the outside and a little dry on the inside. I though that the mint aioli would save it but there wasn't enough and I couldn't taste any mint or the normal aioli flavour at all. Because I was hungry I was able to finish it but overall not too happy with it, considering I paid $13.50 for 3 small portioned sides and 2 small falafels. I totally appreciate the guy who said I could have more sides but for what I received, it wasn't really worth it. Wow, I've been watching too much My Kitchen Rules HAHAHAHA. I sound like a harsh judge!
I think that Crafty Cuts Carvery is better suited for non-vegetarians because they get value for money with the plentiful options of meat. It doesn't matter what time they go, there will always be something for meat-eaters! I probably wouldn't go back but definitely try your luck!
